This week, while packing, I worked on content for the speaking and technical writing page. The content for my currently available talks was written in 2011 as part of the All Disabilities Motivational Institute/Independent Living project . Only a few of them are new or have been updated. All of them are based on the Marty method which is the new term I coined recently to replace what I had long referred to as the CARRPU approach.
CARRPU stands for confidence, acceptance, respect, responsibility, perseverance, and understanding. These are the six concepts that I used to teach disability awareness from 1980 to 2013. Mimmack Motivational got shut down when Hurricane Isselle came within 20 miles of my house outside of Hilo Hawaii in 2014. You may recall that one of the first lava flows also came down the mountain towards my place that year. Several months after those two events I got lucky and found a buyer for my property at a fair price. At that point I had been in Hawaii almost 10 years and was fairly comfortable to wind up my time as leave the land of aloha.
The photo was taken at the Alahanui Hot Pond near Pohoiki, Puna, Hawaii. Look for me in the hot pond in an upcoming post.
