Inclusion, Equity, Diversity
Social Etiquette & Empowerment Training
Marty offers a personally compelling and academically-based set of recommendations to alleviate power imbalances, racial/group tensions, communication breakdowns and equity disparities.
Inclusion, Equity, Diversity
Though they have risen as "buzz" words recently, these practices have tremendous power when fresh initiatives overcome cultural paralysis.
Since 1969 I have taught tens-of-thousands of students and adults how incorporating diversity, respecting equity and integrating inclusion benefits all individuals and society as a whole.
Empowerment Training
Building a foundation of confidence under several layers of positive vibe can be the catalyst for greatness. I can teach the skills for reducing cultural/social alienation, low self-esteem and racist thinking. We have to know we all have "core-competencies" and the ability to self-empower.
Inclusion, Equity and Diversity
This video from Jeremy Rifkin inspired and motivated me to re-launch my public speaking business after the rise of COVID-19 and the fall of Donald Trump. It lays out the basics of what we all must agree to if we are to start cooling racial tensions, fixing economic disparities and closing major equity gaps in the American system of unbridled capitalism. I have many no nonsense ideas for beginning to move toward reconciliation, cooperation and understanding.
Communication Etiquette
Over the decades there have been a ton of programs and how-to courses on effective communication. Some of them are compassionate communication, non-violent communication, positive communication, mindful communication, etc. Though these all have good suggestions and techniques, I prefer a straightforward, direct, clear and summary based communication style. It really is a "hybrid" approach drawing from these historically proven courses and adding my conversational tone and skills.
We are so serious about the content of our communication that sometimes we lose touch with how we are talking and listening. Self-monitoring our tone, feelings and words helps by breaking-the-ice to move to a freer more open exchange of ideas and practices.
Having lived an entire life as an upper bi-lateral shoulder amputee with other severe congenital orthopedic deformities I have been exposed to some of the most complex, highly charged situations where humor, rational thinking and deliberate decision-making were the recipe for successful communication. Whether you need to improve communication one-on-one, in a family, small group, meeting, company or conference, Marty is your master teacher ready to serve.
Empowerment Training
There are at least two aspects, most salient, when building empowerment. First, is raising your own feelings of self-esteem, competence and belonging. And the second, involves actively participating in the community that may have "systematic" power structures that voluntarily and involuntarily impede fairness, inclusion and diversity.
Based on this two-pronged engagement, empowerment can be like navigating a dark, curvy, steep mountain road. There are challenges at every turn and we rarely get warning about whether it's the first or second, or both, aspects we encounter.
Marty unpacks these thorny, complicated issues in a way that immediately stimulates new ways of believing, behaving and thinking. Once you start reframing in these areas empowerment results. Often times, when we start raising our confidence then the social, cultural and economic impediments are easier to reconcile.
